Croque Monsieur

You know a sandwich deserves respect when you are required to use the formal title of Monsieur. The croque monsieur is essentially a toasted ham and cheese sandwich filled with and topped with béchamel sauce. We all know toasted cheese sandwiches are delicious but this takes It one step further and really is the most sensational sandwich. The bread is important too – I think white works best somehow and I’m using the 1886 Rustic White Bloomer from @Hovisbakery. I got all the ingredients from Milk & More, who now deliver over 400 products from everything you need for breakfast: milk, eggs, breads, but also all your regular grocery essentials, and treats for your larder. You won’t often hear me saying this but this is the kind of sandwich you really do need to eat with a knife and fork. It’s absolutely delicious paired with a few cornichons and a crisp green salad dressed in a French Vinaigrette. A gorgeous weekend lunch for September.
